Free Easter Printables

Happy Spring! I am so happy that the weather is finally getting warmer here (for real this time). For a couple of weeks there it really seemed like mother nature was teasing us with a couple of bright sunny days and then more snow!

We had a relaxing Easter here.  My parents came over for dinner and I made a bunch of appetizers and then we had a small entree course. I forgot to take pictures, but I did make a couple of cute Easter printables so I can jot down some of the fun moments.

If you like the printables, make sure to check out all my free printables and share on your favorite social media sites. Remember to tag me on instagram, twitter, or facebook to show off how you used these cards!

Snow! & Free Printables

Lots of Snow!! Over the weekend we got about about a foot or so. North and east of us got hit with up to 3+ feet in some places. Insane. Jeff forgot to snap some pictures on his way to work, so a couple of friends were nice enough to let me show off their #nemo storm shots

I kept inside for the duration of the storm and made some new storm-related Project Life printables. They're free to download. You get both the 300 dpi .jpg file and an easy printable one page .pdf.

Just like my other work, these are distributed under a creative commons licence. These are for personal use only and I ask that if you repost them that you link back to this post here. I also love seeing pictures in action, so tweet or instagram at me @rukristin to show off how you've used them!

If you like these free printables, make sure to get your name on the rukristin papercrafts newsletter. Updates come just often enough and have links to the latest free downloads, coupon codes, and inspiration from me and my blog.

Currently: Telling Your Story. One Week at a Time

Currently is my brand new weekly blog series starting in 2013.

This project is about taking a minute out of your week to write down what is going on right now.

How it Works:

Currently fits in perfectly with Project Life and can easily be tailored to whatever your needs are.

Here's how I'll be doing it: Each week I'll be filling out a 3x4 Currently journaling card with and inserting it in my Project Life spread for the week.

Every Friday I'll be sharing my currently list here on my blog, as well as on various social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook using the hashtag #currentlylist

It'll be great to look back and see how the answers have changed (or remained the same) throughout the year.

Keep Your Holiday Notes in Here!

Today I'm sharing a Basically Bare mini-book that I transformed into a book to keep all my holiday notes & memorabilia in.

Throughout the holiday season I like to keep a notebook with me so that I can jot down gift ideas, keep receipts  gift cards, etc. I use a book with envelopes inside so that I can keep things a little secretive; I don't just want to leave my gift list out in the open.

December Daily | Day 2

December Daily: Day 2. We had a relaxing Sunday at home so I didn't have any good pictures for the day, so instead of a picture, I cut out a portion of the box that our desert came in (Peppermint Baked Alaska from Trader Joe's) to use instead.

I added a little bit of washi tape to the bottom of each of the printed cards.

I used the small things set of cards.

Project Life: The Vacation Week & A Giveaway

Topic: The Vacation Week
(giveaway at the bottom of the post)
giveaway has ended

What do you do when your life takes you away from home for the week? How do you document an entire trip in Project Life? What do you include? What can you leave out?

I tackled all of these questions when I sat down to create this week's spread. I was in Chicago doing some business stuff, and some sightseeing stuff and I needed to figure out what I wanted to include. After a lot of thought, I came up with a list of things I wanted to include:
  1. Overall Impression of the Week
  2. My Favorite Moment
  3. Self-Picture with Meaningful Journaling
To fill in the rest of the pockets I added in a couple of the more important moments throughout the trip. I wasn't concerned with telling every story, because I plan on making a mini-book of my entire trip and documenting those stories in that book. If you're only doing Project Life this is a great time to make an insert. Use an insert to tell the rest of your stories, it can be the same format as your pages, or change it up to better tell your story.

My pages are a modified version of Becky Higgin's Design F pages; I cut off the right most column of pockets to get the rectangular shape. I find this size easier to work with and fill up on a weekly basis.

Instead of the title card for the week, the upper left hand corner has this 4x6 pocket. I wanted to use this photo of my view from the Sears tower as sort of an overarching theme for the entire page. By using the 4x6 card I was able to use a slightly larger photo, letting it stand out more. My embellishments go along with the theme of the week; I stamped my chipboard girl with a city-street map and stamped a little camera up in the corner. I added the stars to make it just a bit more magical.

A very basic card documenting CHA. Two very small photos tell the overall story, a picture of the badge to get into the show, and a picture with two wonderful friends. Multiple pictures can often tell more of the story than trying to cram a bunch of journaling in the same spot.

Another basic card. I was kind of going for a postcard type inspiration, with the name of the city and the map. The blue washi gives it the pop of color that it needs to stand out on its own.

My favorite part. I knew that I wanted the ferris wheel to have its own card. Its the most memorable thing from my entire trip, and I love this picture! I wanted the emphasis to be on the picture itself, so I used a yellow background with pops of red to pull out the red from the cars on the ferris wheel. I added some fun handwriting and flair (to the outside of the page protector) to re-enforce the carnival feeling.

Transition Card -- I'm trying to tell the story of the week, so I wanted a transition card from the time I was at CHA to the time I was sightseeing downtown. Again, multiple pictures are able to tell more of the story. When using more than one picture, there really isn't too much room for embellishments, so a couple of stamps and a tiny bit of journaling goes a long way

My title card for the week, placed in the lower-left corner. Simple, cute, and text-based.

There needed to be one card that had a self-picture, and that was a good card to do some journaling about how I felt on the trip. I used a pre-made journaling card from Jillibean Soup, attached the picture, and filled the rest up with some thoughts. I added some clear tape with white 'days of the week' over the red part of my photo to indicate what day the picture was from. I used the tape a couple other times this week, its a great way to add a little more information in a fun and space-saving way.

My last card tells two stories. The top shows my return home (I even flew into JFK airport!) and the bottom is a small picture of my adventure on Sunday; mini-golfing with my cousins.

...and now for the
Giveaway!!!

I will be launching my very own store on September 1st! we will be offering papercrafting supplies geared toward the trendy & fun everyday scrapper. You can see a sneak of the brand new  'Days of the Week' journaling cards in the picture above.
