Document Your Getaway

Over the summer I wrote a three-part tutorial on scrapbooking your vacation while its happening. I created a mini-book of our trip to the Newport Folk Festival, but this technique could be used for layouts or project life as well. This is also a great way to prepare for longer mini-albums like the December Daily that's coming up in a few short weeks.

Part I: Gathering Your Supplies
Part II: Working Away From Home
Part III: Finishing Up At Home

December Daily Prep

I'm starting to think about this year's December Daily. I had a great time completing last year's book.

Here are a couple things I've decided about this year's book:

  • Around a 6x8 binder
  • Either Studio Calico Handbook or Snap by Simple Stories
  • Divided Page Protectors
  • Non-traditional colours
  • Not doing Project Life during December/integrating it into my December Daily
Here's my December Daily pinterest board: http://pinterest.com/rukristin/december-daily/

Questions for You:
  • Are you doing December Daily? What are you doing about Project Life?
  • Did you finish one last year? the year before?
  • What are your favorite December Daily links? Share them below!

December Daily 2011: Finishing Up Part 2

Finishing a project can take an emotional toll. Putting time and effort into anything, you always hope to be rewarded in the end. Completing my December Daily album was no different. This is the fourth year I've undertaken the month-long project, and it's the first year that I've completed it in its entirety.

The last couple pages of the book were definitely the most challenging. Trying to finish up I got the feeling that all the creativity had been drained from my body already. But I'm proud of my perseverance, as well as super excited to share the end of my book. Thank you for following me on this journey. If you've missed any of the previous pages, you can see them all here: December Daily.

December Daily 2011: Finishing Up Part 1

December Daily 2011: Finishing Up - Part 1

I finished up my December Daily early last week and was finally able to upload my photos. I wanted to keep it simple and quick so I took a photo of each of the two page spreads. Sorry that the overlay tabs get in the way of some of the page. I'll get the full pages up soon.

This is the fourth year that I've started a December Daily project, and the first year that I've finished it in its entirety. Its a great way to document the holiday, and I'm definitely going to be doing it again this December.

Days 10 & 11
Days 12 & 13
Days 14 & 15

I'll be back with the rest of the pages on Saturday!

December Daily | Days 7 & 8

I'd like to take a second and thank my boyfriend Jeff for being super awesome and supportive of everything I do, especially my crafty endeavors.  Lots of love. Today I get to show off his favorite December Daily page so far (Day 7).

That being said, here are days 7 and 8 of my December Daily, all my previous pages can be seen here: December Daily pages. A little bit of back-story about Day 7. Day 7 is Jeff's favorite page, we went to go see a 'Live in HD Met Opera' simulcast showing of Satyagraha, an opera by Phillip Glass about Ghandi. It was spectacular---and 4.5 hours long, lol. So to commemorate our night, I printed out the libretto onto some grid paper, and used that as my background. I love how it came out. Super simple & right to the point.

How is everyone else keeping up with their DD? What are your biggest roadblocks? I'm finding that I was having a really hard time remembering to take pictures, so I set a couple of timers on my phone to remind me that I need to take pictures throughout the day.

December Daily | Days 5 & 6

Woo! Its finally gotten cold here in Jersey. We went so long (aside from the two feet of snow we got Halloween week) without any cold weather, and now its time to turn the heat on and start wearing socks around the house!

I have a couple more December Daily pages for you, again with the overlay first, and then without.  I'm really enjoying taking this project one day at a time, and really creating a page that just feels right for the day instead of worrying about a cohesive look throughout the entire book. If you missed any of the previous pages, all of my DD pages can be seen here.

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Only one more full weekend left before Christmas, starting to really get down to that crunch time.

December Daily | First Pages

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Here are my December Daily pages for Day 1 & 2.

Day One: I used the Hambly brocade paper as my background, added a misted tag, some twine, and OA letter stickers. The journaling is about my love for the Christmas season, since nothing really happened on the first, I thought it would a great way to start off my book.

Day Two: I photographed this one with the overlay, and then without. I journaled about all the movie watching we've been doing. It's turned into a great way to spend time together before we fall asleep, and I'd love to continue the tradition through the holiday season

Thanks for stopping by!

December Daily | Day 3

Three days into December, and my December Daily is going pretty well. I think its partially because of how organized I got before the project began.

Here is my setup: I keep most stuff right on my table. I made a little desktop organizer with some toilet paper rolls and scrap paper. Keep my pens, liquid glue, hole punch, paintbrushes, etc in there. Having eight separate holes makes it a lot easier to see what's inside and grab what I need.

My December Daily supplies are kept in this plexiglass desk organizer. It has three small square compartments at the top and one long compartment at the bottom. I stuck an egg carton in the long compartment so I could hold and separate all my little embellishments.  The three compartments at the top hold (in order from L to R):
1. Mr. Huey's and stamps
2. Tags, paper embellishments
3. Adhesives

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weeekend!

December Daily | Day 2

TGIF. It is the first Friday of December, and the start to the first weekend of the Christmas season! Tree lighting, NYC, and a Christmas concert are on the agenda.

Today I'm sharing with you the second half of my December Daily inside pages: Day 13 through Day 25. Each page is made of grey cardstock. The pages on the left side of the album have a white vertical stripe, as well as a strip of washi tape.

Days 1 through 12 are here: DD Foundation: Part 1.

The overlays are all cut down to 2.5x8.5 and numbered for each day of the month.

My binder is pretty full up, but I'm hoping that the overlays with the brads are taking up most of the bulk.  If I add photos and journaling to the outer parts of the pages instead of near the spine, I shouldn't be adding too much more bulk.

December Daily | Day 1

Happy December!

Documentation starts today. Even though I don't have anything fun planned, or any holiday events going on, I'm still excited for the documentation process to start.  I'm planning on working on the pages whenever I have time, and hopefully posting them a few times a week.

I've got my book all ready to go and I'd love to share my inside pages. Here's the inside cover and Day 1 through Day 12. Tomorrow I'll post Day 13 through Day 25.
