Tutorial: I Love You Mini Envelope Book

Hey! Today I'd like to share with you a really cute little mini book that I made for Jeff for Valentine's Day.

The book is made from 6 little envelopes bound together with washi and artist's tape; and each  envelope holds a tag with a special note inside.

Supplies Used: 

• 6 Envelopes (You can use any envelopes for this project -- I used miniature tiny bag type envelopes for mine).
• Artist Tape (Masking Tape will do)
• Washi Tape
• Binder Clips/Clothespins
• 6 Tags cut to fit inside your envelopes
• Random Stamps & Embellishments for decorating

Step-by-Step:

1. The first step is to stamp/decorate the front and back of all your envelopes. I stamped the day of the week on the front of each of my envelopes; and the red punchinella pattern on the back.

When you're finished decorating your individual envelopes, we'll move on to binding the book together. 

2. Stack all your envelopes together in order.  You are going to be taping the CLOSED side of the envelope (the side across from the opening). Hold your envelopes together and place a strip of artist (or masking) tape binding together the group of envelopes. Don't worry if its not super stuck together just yet, we'll be taping the inside envelopes together in the next step.  

Trim off the excess tape from the top and bottom of the book of envelopes, and grab your washi tape for the next step. 

3. Now we are ready to bind the inside pages together. Open your book up to the first set of pages. Place a strip of washi tape down the center, making sure that you get the tape on both sides. Repeat this step for each of your inside pages. 

Once you trim off the excess washi tape, grab two binder clips (or clothespins) and clamp down your binded edge. This will ensure that your tape sticks as much as possible and that the pages on your book will open easier. Leave on the clips for an hour or two, and then we'll move onto the next step.

4. The last step is to add in the tags and decorate the cover of the book. Grab your stamps, and your stickers, and whatever other embellishments you're in the mood for and go to town. 

  

Stick a tag inside each of the envelopes, decorate the cover and then you're totally done! I added some bling and a little heart to my cover.

Georgia 2011 Mini

Another mini-book to share with you today.  This is a book of a long weekend in Georgia with some scrappy friends.  The entire book is made out of random found things and scrap paper; I also printed all of the pictures (mostly cell phone pics) on my portable pogo printer.  The book base is made with the cardstock packaging from a snack box, covered in the brown paper bag from our grocery trip.  I stuck business cards in there, and some paper that I received as a gift that weekend. I bound it all with my bind-it-all using a 3/4" o-ring.

I love making small books like this when there are a bunch of short stories, random pictures, and inside jokes. This way none of the memories get lost, and they are all stuck together in a neat little package.

Right Now Mini

Today I'd like to share this mini-book with you. It has no photos, and just a couple of pages of what's going on"right now".  The base of the book is an old Scenic Route circle grid chipboard book, and each of the pages are made with some random scraps I had lying around.  It was a very spontaneous project and I really like how it came out.

I love making "right now" books and pages because they are always so much fun to look back on.  What movies and music was I really into, and do I still like the same stuff? 

This one had very basic writing prompts: TV, Movies, Current Events, Music.  What are some of your favorite "right now" or "current" journaling prompts?

30 Days of Lists

Journaling is one of the more important aspects of my crafting.  I love to tell stories and get emotions out on paper.  When I saw the class '30 Days of Lists', I had to jump right in. The object of the class is to get you to write every day, whether its a full art journal page/scrapbook layout, or just a little post-it note.  

Ironically enough, I had already created the shell of a mini-book for this exact purpose--random notes and lists that I wanted to write down. So when I picked up the class, I thought it would be the perfect book to use. Its made out of two sheets of canvas board which I painted with mist, stamped, and added some misted trim to. It is binded with three binder ring holes so that I can insert pages as needed.

The first prompt was September's Goals, which is something I've been thinking about a lot lately.  As summer is winding down, I really feel the need to get back into more of a routine. For this page  I used a vintage timesheet as my base, and washi taped around the edges. On the front I glued down a Maya Road September sheer calender spot, placed some Studio Calico Fab-rip over it, and added some thickers for my title. On the back I just wrote my journaling in a list format with arrows.

Summer Scrapping

We spend our summers taking lots of little trips, and doing fun day-activities. I wanted to make sure I scrapped all of this summer's fun memories. I've been working on this fun little mini-book with binder rings, so that I could scrap events as they are happening.

Today I'm going to show you my set-up, and a step-by-step tutorial on how I've been creating my pages.

First, here is the cover of my book. Its two chipboard sheets, some stuff from the Elle's Studio "Savoring Summer" kit, and binded together with three binder rings.

Second, here is the box that I take with me in my suitcase or overnight bag.  I have a tape runner, liquid adhesive, two journaling pens, scissors, a couple of embellishments, and some pre-cut pages I've made out of tags or scraps. 

While I was away, I grabbed one of the tags, and started my journaling. Telling the story of what was going on at the time.  I knew I had a bunch of pictures to add, so I just kept this simple with words and some doodling.

As soon as I got home, I printed out the pictures that I wanted to use. 

I attached the photo of the Cape May houses to the front of the tag. 

And some pictures of us at the beach to the back of the tag. 

I created a hole template out of cardboard, so that I would know where to use my crop-a-dile on each of the pages. 

Once the holes are punched, I put it right in the book. This book is in chronological order, but you could put them in any way you'd like.

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!!! We are headed out to Philadelphia for the day and then we're going to drive over to Cape May and spend the rest of the weekend at the beach.  The fourth has always been one of my absolute favorite holidays.  There are always so many great memories to capture.  Here are some of the pictures I took last year in Baltimore--one of my favorite trips ever.

Here's the cover of the minibook I created to document this trip. Its made out of baseball card sheets; cut down to have two pockets.

I'm back!

Its been a crazy month! But Jeff and I are finally settled into the new place. We still have some boxes around, and we're getting a new living room couch so we'll be changing around some stuff too. I'll start posting pictures of each of the rooms and what I'm doing with them when they're finished.

Because of the move I haven't really had the time or the space to get crafty, but I have had one project that I've been working on for the duration of our move.  I took the Smash mini-book that was mailed out on their blog, and created a book of our moving adventure. Here are a couple of pictures
